Course Content

Part 1 Intro, art supplies and painting the abstract expessive background
Fluid Thoughts – Part 1: The Flow Begins Dive into the dreamy first steps of our expressive portrait journey. In this opening chapter, we explore the art supplies that bring magic to fluid acrylic work and create a vibrant, abstract background that sets the emotional tone. Part 2 Drawing the Portrait
Fluid Thoughts: Part 2 — With our flowy, expressive ink background setting the mood, we now bring the portrait to life! In this session, we use a scaling tool to carefully map out proportions and sculpt the face with intention and balance. It’s where abstract freedom meets structured form, letting intuition and precision dance on the paper.

Part 3 Painting the portrait 1/3
With our proportions in place and a dreamy background beneath, we begin gently painting the portrait, layer by transparant layer. Starting from the deep shadows, we build upward toward light. It’s a quiet process of unveiling, where depth and softness unfold with patience and care.

Part 4 Painting the portrait 2/3
Fluid Thoughts: Part 4 . In this part, we continue painting with thin, translucent layers that gradually shape the portrait. We will look at the values, the subtle shifts between light and dark, and start turning those into colour. It’s not only about creating lifelike skin tones, but also about blending the portrait into its surroundings. The colours in the background flow into the face and vice versa, helping everything feel connected. We’ll explore intuitive mixing, play with tones, and find balance between contrast and harmony.

Part 5 Painting the portrait 3/3
Fluid Thoughts: Part 5 — Finishing Touches We’re in the final stretch! In this part, we’ll keep building up the portrait, working gently on the eye, nose, and mouth to bring out expression and character. We’ll refine the skin tones, adding subtle shifts and connecting colours from the background. Then come the last details—the little highlights and accents that make the painting come alive. It’s all about slowing down, noticing what wants attention, and letting the portrait speak.
